More Frogs at the Zoo / Mas ranas en el zoologico

Late in 2011 our field team assembled again and went out to collect frogs for our assurance colonies at the National Zoo of Chile in Santiago. Here are a few shots from that process…

Dante and Marcela hold up a bag of frogs from one of their collecting sites. It is nice to get freshly captured frogs right back to the zoo to start the process of settling them into their enclosures at the lab. Dante y Marcela sostienen una bolsa de ranas de uno de sus sitios de recolección. Es agradable llevar ranas recién capturadas al zoológico para comenzar el proceso de instalarlas en sus recintos en el laboratorio.
All frogs going into quarantine are tested for amphibian chytrid fungus. Todas las ranas que entran en cuarentena se someten a pruebas de detección del hongo quitridio anfibio.
The process of collecting a non-invasive skin swab to test for amphibian disease. El proceso de recolectar un hisopo de piel no invasivo para detectar enfermedades de anfibios.
Each frog is set up in its own enclosure when in quarantine. The enclosures are cleaned out daily. Cada rana se instala en su propio recinto cuando está en cuarentena. Los recintos se limpian a diario.

    I love frogs and want to be an animal rescuer when I grow up. Could we see pictures of the frogs habitat in captivity? It is a little weird to see them in the containers.
