Running into Rare Frogs… / Encontrarse con Ranas Raras…

With so much time in the field, we bump into all kinds of rare and infrequently seen amphibians.  Here are a few of the recent encounters…

Con tanto tiempo en el campo, nos topamos con todo tipo de anfibios raros y poco frecuentes.  Éstos son algunos de los encuentros recientes...
Alsodes tumultuosis inhabits a tiny patch of habitat near a ski resort.
The La Parva Spiny-chest Frog (Alsodes tumultuosus) inhabits a tiny patch of habitat near a ski resort. This male is in breeding condition – notice the keritonized spines on his chest. They are for helping him hold onto a female. La rana de pecho espinoso de La Parva (Alsodes tumultuosus) habita en una pequeña zona de hábitat cerca de una estación de esquí. Este macho está en condiciones reproductivas; observe las espinas queritonizadas en su pecho. Son para ayudarlo a aferrarse a una hembra.
